Students And Community In The Spotlight

Spring is in the air, and with the semester rapidly drawing to a close, it is the Engler COB’s tradition to honor our most outstanding students as well as community members. This year’s Engler COB Symposium was held on April 23rd in Legacy Hall, and was also shared via Zoom for online students afar.

The event kicked off with the induction of 42 students into WT’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. Requirements for admission are Top 10% of the undergraduate class, and Top 20% of the graduate class. BGS is an honor society available only to students whose business programs are accredited by AACSB, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Next, several discipline-specific honor society chapters inducted their best students. Alpha Mu Alpha (Marketing) welcomed two new members, while Omicron Delta Epsilon (Economics) inducted six and Upsilon Pi Epsilon (Computer Information Systems) honored 20.

Student Organization Leadership Awards were also announced. Kaycee Sultemeier (Accounting and Finance Association), Christopher Bachman (American Marketing Association), Samuel Packer (BuffTeks Club), Charlee Jones (Society for Human Resource Management), Joclyn Carrasco (Association of Latino Professionals For America), Kami Drinnon (CFA Challenge), Cassandra Gamboa (Media Minds), and Romie Rubio (Women In Business) honored. Jax Ferrel was given the TXCPA Accounting Education Foundation Accounting Excellence Award, and Samuel Packer received the Carey Lyles Emerging Technology Award.

Each year, a small number of students are selected to be Engler Ambassadors. Six students (Larissa Alderete, Luis Abraham Martinez, Jr., Romie Rubio, Camden Sperry, Tory Trahern, and Maylee Wertz) served in this capacity for the academic year. Wertz was given the Engler Edge Award, while Rubio was honored with the Engler Ambassador Leadership Award.

The focus then shifted to Outstanding Business Undergraduate Awards across the various disciplines. Winners for 2025 were Antonella Periotti Omisolo (Accounting), Jessica Hanke (Computer Information Systems), Bradley Sellinger (Economics), Wesley Matthews (Finance), Denisa Weathers (General Business), Ahitziri Soltero (Management), and Ngan Thao (Marketing). The overall Outstanding Undergraduate students were Megan and Doug Shields.

At the graduate level, Alexandria Bridenbaugh (MSCISBA), Jayla Burgess (MBA), Christopher Brooks (MSFE), and Nikolas Westbrook (MACC) were honored. Susan Fleming received the overall Outstanding Graduate Award.

Lastly, the Engler COB always recognizes excellence within the community. Gina Woodward received the Ambassador Award, while Southwest Airlines was the Employer of the Year. Maddie Little received the Horizon Alumnus Award, and the Legacy Award was given to the Amarillo Executive Association.
